Daryl was President of the school’s Green Ambassador Club, during which he
led his team in organising many events that are beneficial to the school and the
community. Some of these activities include cleaning of HDB flats, workshops
to reuse plastic bottles, Youth for the Environment Day, FOOD prints @ SW
where students are trained by NEA on ways to reduce food waste.

Daryl also volunteered at South West Power Saver for Charity, Singapore’s first
district energy-efficient challenge, an outreach programme promoting energy
efficiency and raised funds for needy residents. As someone willing to get
out of his comfort zone, Daryl led his team to participate in the International
Science Drama Competition 2017 organised by the Singapore Science Centre.
Their team won third place in the competition.

Daryl is always on a lookout for platforms to learn about conservation and
how he can contribute back to the environment. He attended the NEA Eco
Champion workshop, SW NEA Junior Environment Ambassador workshop
and the eco workshop organised by the ITE Youth Environmental Envoy
Programme (YEEP). To learn about animal conservation he participated in the
YEEP eco camp at the zoo. He also went on the YEEP eco trip to Cambodia
to learn about the environmental conservation. Daryl also gives back to
the environment by participating in the OBS Project Island A Hand to plant
mangrove saplings at Pulau Ubin.

Daryl has strong belief that we should educate Singaporeans to be
environmentally friendly in order to be a sustainable country.

For his outstanding leadership and contributions to the environment, Teo Kai
Jie Daryl is awarded the 2018 HSBC/NYAA Youth Environmental Award.
