Fuji Xerox is committed to spreading the word to encourage more organisations to go green. In support of the Year of Climate Action and to be part of the solution to the existential threat posed by climate change, we will continue to do more to promote environmental awareness.
How did your organisation first get started on the Climate Action journey?
We operate on the principle that CSR is synonymous with corporate management. We are committed to reducing our carbon emissions by 30% by 2030, using emission levels in 2013 as a baseline. To do so, our sustainability management is developed from our circular value chain and addresses end-of-life product. We will continue to invest in innovative solutions to help our customers make smart and green workplaces a reality. Resources are never wasted at Fuji Xerox. We have a zero landfill policy and aim to achieve a 99.5% recycling rate. As a company positioned in the middle of the paper-use supply chain, we recognise our corporate responsibility and influence over our suppliers and customers in responsible forestry management and paper use. We are committed to ethical sourcing and international paper certification standards such as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
What are your Climate Action goals for your organisation in 2018?
In Singapore, we aim to achieve the following climate goals by 2018:
– Achieve zero increase in carbon emission (from emission levels in 2013)
– To offer green and smart office solutions to help our customers reduce their carbon emission
– To educate and engage stakeholders in product recycling and circular economy
– To expand the scope of Fuji Xerox green procurement policy in Singapore
– To achieve ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management System and Assurance to company management and employees as well as external stakeholders that environmental impact is being measured and improved
– To disclose our environmental performance in our Sustainability Report 2018.
Why is Climate Action important for your organisation and for Singapore?
Being one of 43 United Nation Global Compact LEAD companies, Fuji Xerox is committed to continual progress towards the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We endeavour to curb global warming through reduction of emission from products, services, and business operations across Asia Pacific, contributing to Goal 13: Climate Action. Singapore, as a key market, has significant influence on other markets in the region. By embarking on climate action, Singapore takes the leading role to drive global action to combat climate change.
Fuji Xerox Singapore has also made significant strides in SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by promoting cross-sectorial climate action collaboration.
Having been through it ourselves, Fuji Xerox understands the challenges of organisations when embarking on a green journey.
Common challenges in going green:
- Getting more employees to participate
- High energy consumption
- Excessive use of paper and print
We started the Go Green Workshop several years ago to help organisations become more environmentally aware and cultivate a caring and eco-conscious workforce.
Since then, we have reached out to over 200 companies through our “Go Green” workshops that share our environmental best practices and discuss what other organisations are doing to reduce their carbon footprint using green technologies, solutions and strategies.
What advice do you have for other organisations who are embarking on their sustainability journey?
Companies should monitor and report on progress in their sustainability initiatives. It can be done by referring to international reporting standards (e.g. GHG Protocol, GRI Standards, ISO Standards, etc.). Companies should also engage stakeholders to maximise the impact of sustainability activities within the organization, and influence the decisions of stakeholders.
