From Singapore to the rest of the world, CapitaLand engages its customers to lead more sustainable lifestyles on and offline.

As one of Asia’s largest real estate companies, and one of the world’s most sustainable, CapitaLand continues to take proactive steps to shape the built environment sustainably.

In support of Singapore’s Year of Climate Action and as part of CapitaLand’s global Earth Hour campaign, over 280 properties across more than 20 countries, including 35 properties in Singapore, organised activities focused on sustainable practices and caring for the environment, engaging millions of customers to lead more sustainable lifestyles.

Mr Tan Seng Chai, Group Chief People Officer of CapitaLand Group and Chairman of the CapitaLand Sustainability Steering Committee said: “When CapitaLand shapes real estate of the future, we are mindful to develop sustainable designs and solutions, with active placemaking initiatives to engage and educate our shoppers, tenants, residents, partners and stakeholders to play an active role in safeguarding our environment.”

In Singapore, all 1.2 millionSTAR$®  rewards were snapped up through CapitaLand’s Earth Hour daily quiz on the CapitaStar mobile app. Designed to galvanise CapitaStar members into taking action for the environment, the quiz recommended actionable lifestyle tips to reduce one’s plastic, carbon and water footprint.

Over 8,000 entries were received over the 4-day quiz leading up to Earth Hour on 24 March. Highly popular, the STAR$®  rewards were fully redeemed by the end of each day.

Meanwhile, shopping malls like Bedok Mall, Lot One Shoppers’ Mall and Plaza Singapura partnered with the Public Utilities Board (PUB) to organise World Water Day roadshows to encourage shoppers to save water. The company’s green mascot, CapitaFrog teamed up with its #bff Water Wally from PUB to spread the water conservation message on social media.

CapitaLand’s overseas properties also organised activities such as eco-quizzes, recycling drives, cycling, terrarium-building workshops, tree-planting initiatives, candlelight dinners, environmental movie screenings and more, designed to engage the community and rallying everyone to do their part to save the environment.

CapitaLand malls in Malaysia did their part to encourage the public to take climate action too. In Penang, over 800 participants of the Earth Hour Run & Ride for Sight 2018 were flagged off at Queensbay Mall, including 30 blind and visually impaired riders and runners. The activity encouraged participants to adopt a low-carbon and sustainable lifestyle as well as inclusivity in their activities.

In Penang, a bra-recycling initiative was launched at Gurney Plaza, the first of its kind in the country. Collaborating with their tenant Neubodi, shoppers were encouraged to donate their old or unused bras to be recycled or converted into reusable solid fuel. In a span of 10 days, an estimated 5,000 bras were collected.

In Vietnam, a Green Bazaar with more than 30 green and organic dishes were prepared by staff in Ho Chi Minh City. More than 300 staff and guests from CapitaLand Vietnam and CapitaLand’s serviced residence unit, The Ascott Limited, raised close to S$1,000 in support of a local school in the Binh Phuoc province.

Earth Hour may have ended but taking climate action continues. CapitaLand has pledged to reduce the intensity of its carbon, water and energy emissions per mby 30%, 30% and 25% respectively, by 2030. You too can play your part, whether as a homeowner, shopper or office tenant.
