The Year of Climate Action is all about working together to fight climate change for a sustainable Singapore. Here are some highlights of the programmes and initiatives by MEWR and our partners as we pledge our commitments to take climate action.
Climate Action Roundtable with NGOs (7 Jan)
More than 30 NGOs and interest groups were invited to discuss ways on how to kick-start grounds-up movements to commemorate the Year of Climate Action. (read more)
South West CDC (SWCDC) ECo Day Out (21 Jan)
An annual environmental flagship event by SWCDC to showcase, celebrate and recognize environmental efforts in the district. (read more)
Year of Climate Action Launch (21 Jan)
Our valued partners – comprising of ambassadors, corporate chiefs, trade association reps, school principals, and NGOs came together to mark this special occasion, which also saw the launch of the Climate Action pledge and logo. (read more)
Climate Action Roundtable with Youths (31 Jan)
In collaboration with the National Youth Council, passionate and youths gathered to ideate solutions to spread climate action messages through their circles of influence. (read more)
Sembcorp Marine Green Wave Environmental Care Project for Schools (3 Feb)
Inspired by Sembcorp Marine’s philosophy of environmental protection, Green Wave is an competition for school students to showcase their innovative ideas for environmental conservation. (read more)
IKEA’s Renewable Energy Project (3 Feb)
IKEA is the first commercial enterprise in Singapore to activate a large-scale solar cooling system. The project is expected to help its Alexandra store save $1.3m over the next 10 years. (read more)
Global Environment Outlook (19 Feb)
MEWR played host to over 200 eminent scientists and academics who convened in Singapore to share scientific knowledge on the causes and impacts of environmental change. (read more)
Mass Pledging by Bukit View Secondary School (BVSS) (22 Feb)
BVSS became the first school in Singapore to successfully collect climate action pledges from all its 1,300 students and staff, solidifying the school’s firm commitment to fight climate action.
Opening of JOULES Smart Centre (26 Feb)
A partnership with the Singapore Green Building Council has resulted in the creation of a unique green classroom for BVSS students to learn about green innovation and products. (read more)
Commitments to Sustainable Palm Oil (26 Feb)
The Southeast Asia Alliance for Sustainable Palm Oil (SASPO) is an industry led alliance which provides a knowledge-sharing platform for companies that source for sustainable palm oil. (read more)
Henkel Singapore’s Year of Climate Action (28 Feb)
The first organization to achieve 100% employees pledges for climate action and training as Sustainability Ambassadors, Henkel Singapore is committed to leadership in sustainability. (read more)
Singapore World Water Day (SWWD) (March)
Celebrated throughout the month of March, the SWWD campaign rallies the community to save water, as one of the ways to take climate action. Over 30,000 people have pledged to do their part to save water. (read more)
EcoBank 2018 (2 Mar)
An initiative by City Developments Limited and Eco-Business to raise awareness about the need for sustainable consumption and waste reduction during the festive period. (read more)
Climate Action Outreach by Scouts (3 Mar)
While engaging the crowd about water conservation, Scouts collected climate action pledges at their booth during SWWD. President Halimah Yaacob also dropped by the Scouts’ booth to contribute her own climate action pledge. (read more)
Climate Community Night (9 Mar)
Singapore Youth for Climate Action organised a community meet-up to brainstorm for ways to get more youths involved in climate action.
Love Fiesta 2018 by Jurong Junior College (10 Mar)
Eco ambassadors at JJC rallied fellow students and visitors to take the climate action pledge. (read more)
Outreach by Zhonghua Secondary School National Cadet Corps (NCC) (17 Mar)
As part of Earth Hour, NCC cadets went door to door to collect climate action pledges from Serangoon residents. The students shared simple ways to fight climate change and collected 175 pledges.
